Narrative Development

Some children can speak simple sentences but have difficulty stringing them together to tell a story, maintain a conversation, or explain the nuances of what they are thinking or feeling.

The Narrative Development Programme aims to bridge the gap between oral language and literal language. The programme also aims to develop your child’s narrative skills using strategies such as the story grammar that acts as a cognitive map to guide comprehension and telling stories. Also, this program uses evidence-based approaches to increase the size and variety of your child’s expressive vocabulary, including open-ended questions, sentence-completion activities, modelling, and topic boards.

Through both spoken and written exercises, children will develop the following key areas:

  • Sentence construction
  • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Skills
  • Storytelling Skills
  • Vocabulary Building
  • Perspective-taking
  • Social Communication Skills
  • Discourse Skills

This programme is suitable for students in grade levels K1 to P3.
